Travelling
Captivated and engrossed in a new environment, before all else baby needs a maximum number of familiar things. To avoid over-filling your suitcases and turning your departure on holiday into a nightmare, you simply need to follow these handy tips:
Before leaving
To avoid unnecessary excess baggage, here are a few handy tips from Biolane to lighten your load:
Superfluous items:
- Changing mat: a towel placed on a bed is perfectly sufficient.
- High-chair: a booster seat which is easier to pack in a corner of the car or under a seat is a better option.
- Pram: the buggy can replace it.
- Baby bottle warmer: just for the holiday period use the bain-marie method.
- Bath.
Essential items:
- Baby-carrier: ideal when going out for walks with baby on nature trails.
- Baby Listener: which will leave you free to have a peaceful meal or relax while baby is asleep.
- Buggy: with a potential dual use; both as a pram for baby's nap or a seat for a meal in the shade of a parasol.
- Folding bed: essential as a safe place for baby to sleep.
- Mosquito net: essential if you are going to an area at risk.
It's time to leave!
- Leave in the cool of the morning! Baby sleeps at night. He will not be aware of anything and you will have a more peaceful journey.
- In the event you are unable to leave at the crack of dawn, remember to refresh baby regularly. Give him something to drink often and stop every 2 hours, if possible in the shade.
- If the sun is out, protect baby from the heat by wedging a damp towel in the window.
- If baby does not enjoy travelling by car, have a cassette of lullabies and nursery rhymes to hand to keep him calm, as well as his fabric book and favourite cuddly toy. Baby needs to feel "at home" when he's travelling.
- For practical purposes always have a small bag at hand full of essential baby products. It is sometimes difficult to get to the suitcase!
