Massage

A moment of pure tenderness

Massage

Massage is a moment of pure tenderness and bonding which provides a lovely final touch to the cleansing routine and effectively protects the skin from dryness. It's an essential reflex which enables baby to feel safe with his mother. And it's a relaxing treatment...that babies adore!

Massage has many virtues.
On the one hand, it helps mother and child to get to know one another and strengthens bonding, and, on the other hand, it stimulates baby's awareness, his circulation and his digestion.
Before massaging baby:

  • Make sure his skin is properly dry.
  • Choose a calm and warm room (25°C minimum).
  • Wash your hands and remove any jewellery.
  • Undress baby and lay him down on his back. Sit down next to him; your presence and the warmth of your skin will reassure him.
  • Delicately massage all the areas of baby's face and body that are sensitive to dryness: nose, cheekbones, and shoulders.

Different areas of his body await your massages:

  • Hands and feet
These massages are a good way of getting baby to explore his limbs.
  • Feet
Using your thumbs, make circular massaging movements to the arches of the feet moving towards his toes.
  • Hands
Using your thumbs, make circular massaging movements to the palms of his hands. End with his little fingers.
Do not forget to wash baby's hands after the massage!
  • Back
Place your open hands on his back. Gently massage starting from the back of the neck moving downwards to the lower back in a continuous back and forth movement. This massage will help to make his backbone more flexible.
  • Stomach
Carry out a delicate circular massage, always going in the same direction. This massage will encourage his digestion and relieve any colic.

Do a twelve minute session to begin with. The massages will promote good balance and well-being.

It is possible that at first baby does not like these little massages - do not worry. He may pick-up some stress from you or elsewhere. Hold him in your arms and sing him a little song to comfort him. Try again a couple of days later when things are very calm.
