Bath-time

The bath: the favourite ritual of babies and mothers...and fathers too!

Bath-time

To bathe baby safely and take advantage of the pleasure of using water without its drying effects, follow these handy tips on a daily basis:

  • Prepare baby's bath in advance: make sure all the products, towel and change of diaper are close at hand. That way you will not have to move away from baby during his cleansing routine.
  • Watch out for the temperature of the room (between 20 and 22 °C) and the water (between 36 and 37 C°).
  • Install baby safely and comfortably: pass your arm under the back of baby's neck and shoulders and hold him firmly by the arm at armpit level. By holding baby, mother's arm reassures him and makes a comfortable headrest.
Warning! A baby must never be left alone in water or on a changing table. To avoid stress, take the telephone off the hook...
  • Limit the bath to 2 or 3 minutes with newborns to avoid skin dryness.
  • Wash baby with your hands to avoid the wash mitt or sponge which are veritable breeding places for germs. Wash him thoroughly paying particular attention to skin folds and do not forget to wash his scalp and hair each time too.
  • Dry baby thoroughly by gently patting him dry without rubbing. Do not forget between his toes and all the skin folds sensitive to irritation.

Remember the 3 key words when bathing baby are:
Organization, precautions and safety...

The bath enables physical contact with baby. He is thus very attentive to mother's words and games. It is a great moment of bonding that sets the pace for the day; but you must not hold it against him if the moment you have dressed him he calmly dozes off!

If baby's skin is dry:
Spray Biolane Sweet Almond Oil 5/10 times into the bath water (36 °C maximum), cleanse baby's skin with Extra Rich Soap and avoid prolonged baths.
